Integrating robotic cells, manual stations and AGV routes beneath overhead structures
The client needed an industrial equipment installation for a flexible, low-volume assembly line in an engine manufacturing facility, combining 28 manual stations with four robotic cells. One robot weighed more than 15,000 lb, the assembly tools were mounted on 20-foot steel overhead structures, and Automated Guided Vehicles had to move engines between stations along the floor beneath those structures.
Seventeen specialists coordinated mechanical, electrical and utility installation from nine scissor lifts
The 17-person team began in June with offloading and mechanical and electrical installation, including air and lubrication pipelines. The crew worked from nine scissor lifts, with a constant risk of falling tools and materials that made site safety the priority throughout. The assembly stations and robotic cells were coordinated and synchronised, and the AGVs were integrated into the line.
