Power Transmission & Distribution

From conductor to finished cable, line by line.

Industrial delivery for power transmission and distribution manufacturing

For manufacturers supplying power transmission and distribution markets, demand for new grid capacity, renewable connections and electrification is driving investment in HV, MV and LV cable production. Expanding that capacity can involve long process lines, high-rise CV and VCV systems, heavy cable-handling equipment and complex electrical infrastructure. Beck & Pollitzer delivers the installation, modification and relocation work needed to bring new and upgraded cable-production assets into service.

Our work in the sector spans Europe and North America, including high-voltage cable manufacturing projects in Sweden and an international cable factory relocation from the UK to the United States. Projects range from high-rise electrical installation and precision line integration to complete cross-border production transfers.

Four areas of coverage

The manufacturing infrastructure behind power transmission and distribution spans conductor preparation, insulation, vulcanisation, finishing and large-scale cable handling. Our delivery scope follows the main stages of cable production, from conductor preparation through to finished-cable handling.

CV, CCV & VCV production systems

Continuous vulcanisation (CV) systems are central to high-voltage and subsea cable production, with vertical and catenary layouts placing demanding requirements on geometry, tower interfaces and electrical integration. CV/VCV tower installation and integration supports positioning and structural integration where these systems must meet defined tolerances.

  • CV, CCV and VCV production lines
  • Vertical towers and high-rise structures
  • Caterpillar haul-offs and pay-off systems
  • Alignment, levelling and geometric verification

Wire drawing, annealing & stranding

The conductor-preparation stage brings together wire drawing, annealing and stranding equipment that must operate as one continuous manufacturing sequence. Conductor-line equipment installation can cover positioning, assembly, connection and OEM coordination through to commissioning support.

  • Multiwire and rod breakdown drawing machines
  • Annealing equipment
  • Rigid, tubular and planetary stranders
  • Drum twisters and core laying-up lines

Extrusion, armouring & finishing

Extrusion and finishing sections combine polymer handling, insulation, sheathing, armouring and take-up equipment with controls and utilities across long production runs. Beck & Pollitzer supports the electrical and utility connections required to bring these systems into operation, with finished-cable handling and storage connecting output into wider site logistics.

  • Cable extrusion and insulation lines
  • Crosshead extruders and polymer-feed systems
  • Braiding, armouring and sheathing equipment
  • Spoolers, coilers, rewinders and test equipment

Cable plant expansion & line transfer

Cable manufacturers may need to add capacity, install new production areas or transfer complete lines between sites while protecting machine-to-utility interfaces and restart dates. Power-cable production transfer supports dismantling, packing, logistics, reinstallation and service reconnection across wider moves.

  • Greenfield capacity and brownfield expansion
  • Complete production-line transfers
  • Heavy-lift and cross-border equipment logistics
  • Reinstallation, service reconnection and start-up support

Programme delivery & site safety

Power cable projects can combine high-rise structures, long cable routes, heavy drums and multiple OEM interfaces. Through cable-line programme coordination, installation sequences, access, lifting and OEM work fronts are aligned to the production schedule. Work at height and electrical isolation are managed through high-rise and heavy-lift safety controls, alongside cable-pulling operations and supervision in live industrial areas.

Need to know more?

Answers to common questions about our approach, delivery and expertise.
How do you coordinate installation across drawing, extrusion and CV/VCV equipment from different OEMs?

Power cable lines often combine wire drawing, extrusion and continuous vulcanisation equipment from several different OEMs, each with its own interfaces and commissioning requirements. Beck & Pollitzer sequences positioning, connection and commissioning across these packages so the complete line operates as a single, coordinated production sequence.

What alignment accuracy can you support on CV, CCV and VCV systems?

Beck & Pollitzer uses VCV tower alignment and laser metrology to support CV, CCV and VCV installation, with the current Power Cable capability specifying alignment accuracy of ±0.3 mm.

Can you relocate a cable manufacturing facility internationally?

Yes. In one relocation, a cable manufacturing facility was moved from Swindon in the UK to Duncan in the United States. A 17-person site team delivered the mechanical, electrical and piping scope over approximately three months and 10,990 project hours, with zero safety incidents. Can the same line be configured to run HV, MV and LV cable production, or does each require separate installation?

Line configuration varies with voltage class, insulation type and cable diameter, so equipment changeovers, tooling adjustments and control settings often need to shift when a line moves between HV, MV and LV production, without requiring a full new-line installation.

Can you support cable plant expansion while existing production continues?

Yes. Brownfield upgrades can be phased around operating production areas, with access routes, service connections and installation windows planned around adjacent lines. Cable-line upgrade and restart support can support modification, verification and recommissioning activity around existing assets.
