A factory relocation takes in the production equipment, utilities, internal infrastructure, logistics, fit-out and reinstallation, all run to the shutdown and restart dates the business needs. Beck & Pollitzer plans and delivers these moves for manufacturers going to a new building, consolidating sites or transferring operations between countries.
Manufacturers such as Novelis, Saint-Gobain and Bosch have used our teams for factory and plant relocations, some of them across borders. One documented relocation involved more than 2,000 pieces of equipment, from ancillary items to CNC machine tools, and over 100,000 project hours.
Where the move includes building works at the new site, Beck & Pollitzer can act as Principal Contractor. Relocation and fit-out then run under one contract as a turnkey project.
Planning, shutdown, transfer and restart
A factory move runs at both ends at once: the origin site is being emptied while the destination is being made ready. The areas below cover that work. Moves limited to individual machines, cells or production lines are covered by machine and production-line moves.

Relocation planning & phased delivery
Before shutdown begins, the move is mapped around production priorities, asset groups, site access and readiness at the destination. That plan sets what moves first, what keeps running, what goes into storage and when each area is handed over for reinstallation. Contractor and OEM interfaces, resources and the move schedule are managed through planning and schedule control across both sites.
- Surveys of both sites
- Asset registers and move categorisation
- Phased shutdown and transfer sequence
- Resource and access requirements
- Move schedule and milestone tracking
- Destination-readiness checks

Origin-site shutdown & asset control
A factory move can involve production machinery, test equipment, services, steelwork and ancillary infrastructure leaving the site in different phases. Assets are identified, disconnected, documented and prepared for relocation, storage, reuse or disposal, with isolations, lifting and access controls planned through our safety planning for live and partly operational areas. Equipment that is being retired rather than transferred is handled under removal and disposal of retired plant.
- Mechanical and electrical isolation
- Asset identification and tagging
- Sequenced release of areas for removal
- Asset tracking and movement records
- Segregation for relocation, storage, reuse or disposal
- Origin-site handover preparation

Transfer logistics & temporary storage
Whole-facility moves travel in planned waves. Machinery, ancillary equipment and materials leave in sequence and arrive as each receiving area becomes ready. Where a receiving area is not ready, warehousing and tracked storage holds equipment and materials until it is.
- Dispatch waves planned by production area
- Delivery slots matched to receiving-area readiness
- Interim storage for equipment not yet needed
- Movement of materials, tooling and ancillary equipment
- Heavy and oversized load planning
- Multi-site and cross-border coordination

Destination fit-out, reinstallation & restart
The receiving facility has to be ready before each delivery arrives. Scope can include foundations, floor fixings, primary services, access structures and internal fit-out, with equipment placed and reconnected as each area is released. Rebuilding, connecting and commissioning the machinery itself is handled by our installation, reconnection and handover.
- Foundation and floor-fixing preparation
- Primary service and utility installation
- Mezzanines, platforms and access structures
- Workshop, office and welfare-area fit-out where in scope
- Equipment reinstallation and reconnection
- Testing and handover support

Planning should start early enough to survey both sites, build the asset register, define shutdown windows and confirm what must be ready at the destination before equipment moves. The move can then be phased around production priorities and the required restart dates.
Where the site and process allow, the move is divided into phases so selected lines or areas keep running while others are released. One approach is to have each line running at the destination before the next one is stopped at the origin.
A project becomes a factory relocation when it extends beyond individual assets or lines into several production areas, utilities, infrastructure or wider site functions. A move of an individual machine, cell or production line stays with Machine Relocation.
Origin-site shutdown, transport and destination work are treated as separate stages, each with defined responsibilities and handover points. Teams at the origin and destination handle the on-site stages, with one project structure holding the schedule across both.
Typical requirements include confirmed layouts and control points, access routes, foundations or floor fixings, lifting areas, primary utilities and enough completed building work for each receiving area. The exact criteria depend on the machinery and the installation sequence.
Yes, where it is part of the agreed scope. Fit-out is sequenced against equipment deliveries, so each receiving area is complete before the equipment for it arrives.
For a green energy manufacturer in the UK, Beck & Pollitzer moved production machinery, test cells, an R&D facility and combustion chambers into a new purpose-built facility in Leamington Spa. The work included internal workshops, offices and mezzanine floors, with Beck & Pollitzer acting as Principal Contractor while the client stayed operational through the move. Full turnkey factory relocation project.
Our team can review the sites, the shutdown window and the destination works, then set out how a phased move would run.
