Industrial metrology and robotic site layout
Beck & Pollitzer’s metrology and layout teams measure, mark out and verify equipment positions on industrial sites. Depending on project requirements and local availability, digital designs can also be transferred onto the floor using HP SitePrint, while completed work is checked against project drawings and OEM tolerances.
Measurement and alignment work has formed part of installations and relocations for manufacturers including Reliance New Energy, Thamesteel and VDL/DAF, using digital theodolites, optical levels and laser tracking to verify equipment against manufacturer tolerances.
Precision Services can be booked as a standalone requirement or built into a wider installation or relocation, working from the same drawings, tolerances and control points as the trades on site.
Measurement, layout and verification
Four areas of work cover measurement, layout and verification across a project. Each can sit inside a wider installation or relocation, or be booked on its own where dimensional control is critical.

Industrial metrology & laser measurement
Our metrology teams capture and verify dimensions across machinery, production lines and facilities. Laser trackers and 3D measurement technology map existing conditions and check positions against tolerance before, during and after installation.
- Large-scale 3D coordinate measurement
- Laser tracker measurement
- Dimensional inspection and tolerance verification
- Jigs, fixtures and tooling qualification
- Facility mapping and measurement validation
- As-built surveys

Robotic site layout with HP SitePrint
Where project conditions and local availability allow, Beck & Pollitzer can use HP SitePrint to transfer CAD and BIM data directly onto the floor, marking equipment positions, reference grids, base plates and installation zones. Floor conditions, access routes and robot paths are planned within our site safety approach.
- Equipment and base-plate positioning
- Reference grid creation
- Technical-room and equipment layout
- Floor marking from CAD and BIM data
- Robot navigation-path planning
- Layout drawing validation

Alignment verification & accuracy control
Measurement data confirms that machinery, conveyors and production systems sit to specification before commissioning, so deviations are caught while adjustment is still simple. Where the same project needs the equipment positioned and connected, our mechanical installation and commissioning teams work from the same measurements.
- Alignment and levelling checks
- Production-line and conveyor alignment checks
- Pre-commissioning position checks
- Final tolerance verification

BIM-to-field & digital verification
Digital layout starts with validating the drawings and establishing control points, then moves positions from the model onto site and checks completed work against requirements. On larger projects, drawing revisions and installation sequence are managed through our drawing and sequencing control, so layout reflects the latest approved design.
- BIM-to-field workflows
- Layout drawing preparation and validation
- Control-point establishment
- Digital-to-floor transfer
- Spatial-data validation
- Completion reporting

Industries we support
Need to know more?
Industrial metrology is the measurement of machinery, equipment and spaces against defined dimensions and tolerances. On an industrial project it shows where equipment stands, whether it sits within tolerance and what needs adjusting before commissioning.
Robotic site layout transfers positions from an approved CAD or BIM file onto the physical working surface. On selected projects, Beck & Pollitzer can use HP SitePrint to mark equipment positions, reference grids and installation zones directly on site, reducing manual measurement and transcription.
BIM-to-field is the transfer of positions from a digital model or drawing onto the physical site, so site teams work from marked coordinates instead of measuring off drawings.
Metrology and layout are typically introduced before equipment positioning begins, allowing control points, floor conditions and planned positions to be checked in advance. Verification can then continue through installation and pre-commissioning.
Yes. Existing equipment positions can be recorded before a move, the new layout validated and marked, and machinery checked after repositioning. This gives one measurement reference from the pre-move survey through to reinstallation.
Drawings, tolerances and floor conditions are all our metrology team needs to advise on the right measurement approach.
