Mechanical and electrical delivery for critical data centre infrastructure

Data centre programmes bring together critical power, cooling, white-space equipment and controls within tightly sequenced construction and commissioning schedules. Equipment has to be positioned, connected, tested and handed over to exacting standards while protecting sensitive environments and, on live sites, maintaining operational continuity. Beck & Pollitzer supports these programmes from equipment logistics and installation through electrical and mechanical integration, testing and commissioning support.

Our data centre experience includes long-term electrical installation work in Madrid, alongside wider mechanical and electrical delivery for owners, general contractors and equipment providers. Our teams work across power infrastructure, cooling systems, server-cabinet fit-out, cable management and final readiness activities, adapting to changing building conditions and equipment availability through to handover.

Four areas of coverage

Data centre installation brings together high-value electrical and mechanical systems that have to be delivered in the correct sequence before commissioning can begin. Delivery typically centres on four critical infrastructure packages.

Critical power infrastructure

Power systems have to be positioned, aligned and connected with clear control over electrical interfaces and testing requirements. Beck & Pollitzer supports critical-power equipment installation across the principal equipment packages that feed and protect the data hall.

  • Generators and automatic transfer switches
  • UPS systems and associated transformers
  • MV and LV switchgear and PDUs
  • Busbars, distribution boards and panels

Cooling & mechanical systems

Cooling infrastructure must be installed around equipment access, airflow requirements and the mechanical services serving the facility. Our teams handle lifting, positioning and integration of cooling equipment, with cooling-system installation and integration available where mechanical, electrical and supporting services need to be coordinated under one delivery programme.

  • HVAC and chiller units
  • CRAC and CRAH equipment
  • Chilled-water and associated pipework
  • Ductwork and mechanical service connections

White space & cable management

Inside the data hall, installation quality depends on accurate positioning, controlled routing and disciplined cleanliness. Server cabinets, containment and cable infrastructure can be installed and prepared for handover, with rack positioning and installation checks used where layout and alignment need additional verification.

  • Server racks and cabinets
  • Containment and flooring interfaces
  • Cable tray, routing and management
  • Power and signal cabling

Fit-out, upgrades & commissioning readiness

Data centre programmes frequently progress through staged fit-out, equipment additions and changing building readiness. Beck & Pollitzer supports logistics, installation, testing records and close-out activity so completed systems can move into commissioning, including data-centre upgrade and readiness support where work is being delivered around existing infrastructure.

  • Equipment logistics and staged installation
  • Live or partially live site upgrades
  • Testing, inspection and documentation
  • Start-up, commissioning and handover support

Programme delivery & site safety

Data centre installation moves through a tightly controlled sequence from equipment delivery and isolation to energisation, testing and handover.

Our data-centre workfront and commissioning coordination aligns equipment packages, access, building readiness and test requirements so each area is ready for the next stage. Red-tag isolation, controlled energisation, lifting activity, work at height and access around sensitive or partially operational systems are managed under electrical isolation and live-site controls.

Need to know more?

Answers to common questions about our approach, delivery and expertise.
Can Beck & Pollitzer work in live or partially operational data centres?

Yes. Installation and upgrade work can be planned around live or partially operational infrastructure, with access, isolation, equipment movement and energisation controlled around existing systems. Work is phased to protect adjacent equipment and maintain clear separation between active and construction areas.

How do you manage cleanliness and equipment protection inside data halls?

Data halls require stricter housekeeping and protection controls than conventional industrial environments. Our teams work to project-specific clean-build requirements, using controlled access, staged inspection, equipment protection and disciplined cleaning before areas move into final testing and handover.

Can you install critical power equipment such as UPS systems and MV/LV switchgear?

Yes. Beck & Pollitzer supports lifting, positioning, alignment and electrical integration for UPS systems, transformers, MV and LV switchgear, PDUs, distribution boards, busbars and associated equipment. Scope can also include cable pulling, terminations, testing and commissioning support.

How do you manage electrical installation through to handover?

Yes. Beck & Pollitzer sequences electrical installation through a controlled progression from equipment isolation and safety tagging, through positioning, connection and testing, to final energisation and handover sign-off. Close coordination with the general contractor, client and other trades keeps each work area moving through this sequence without disrupting adjacent live or newly-energised systems.
