Body shop installation for a new EV plant in India

Installing body shop structures, robots and fixtures after unloading nearly 100 containers and 30 trucks at a new EV manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu.

India

Turning a large inbound equipment package into a precisely set body shop

The project covered the complete installation of body shop structures and associated equipment at a new EV assembly plant in Tamil Nadu. Before installation could begin, nearly 100 containers and 30 trucks of equipment had to be unloaded, unpacked and checked.

Robots, fixtures and supporting structures then had to be positioned to the required layout before mechanical, electrical and utility interfaces could be completed under OEM and client supervision.

Laser-tracked layout, mechanical and electrical installation, followed by commissioning support

A 50-person team managed the installation sequence from incoming equipment handling through to commissioning support. Laser-tracked floor marking established the installation references before robots, fixtures and supporting structures were positioned, aligned and levelled.

The machinery installation scope also included structural assembly, electrical work and utility connections, supported by cranes, forklifts and scissor lifts. The installation phase ran for 2.5 months, followed by four weeks of commissioning support.

Need to know more?

Why was laser-tracked floor marking used before equipment installation?
The body shop contained robots, fixtures and supporting structures that had to be positioned to a defined layout. Laser-tracked floor marking provided the reference points used before positioning, alignment and levelling.
What happened before the body shop equipment was positioned?
The team first unloaded and unpacked equipment arriving in nearly 100 containers and 30 trucks, carrying out quality checks before the installation sequence began.
