Industrial delivery for metals manufacturing
Metals producers are balancing output, asset life and decarbonisation. Modernisation may be tied to fixed shutdowns or furnace campaigns, while new investment is accelerating green steel and other lower-carbon production routes. Beck & Pollitzer delivers the installation, revamp and relocation work around those constraints, from individual process systems to complete plant programmes.
Our metals experience includes work for ArcelorMittal, SSAB, Novelis, Elval, Otto Junker and Harsco Metals & Minerals. Across the UK, mainland Europe, India, Iceland and the United States, our teams have worked on greenfield aluminium and silicon-metal plants, steelworks modernisation, mill installation and international relocations. That breadth spans both new-build and operating plants, from primary processing through to downstream finishing.
Four areas of coverage
Steelmaking & melt-shop systems
Steelworks modernisation can involve converters, degassing vessels, furnace systems, cooling equipment and major supporting structures within tightly constrained production areas. Beck & Pollitzer supports new-build and revamp work, with heavy process equipment installation covering positioning, assembly and connection through to commissioning support.
- RH-OB degassing vessels and associated steelwork
- Ladle turrets and converter equipment
- EAF, SAF and converter support systems
- Cooling stacks and heavy process structures

Aluminium extrusion & finishing
Aluminium plants combine casting, rolling and extrusion equipment with automated handling and downstream finishing processes, often supported by automated storage and material flow. Our teams support new-build and expansion programmes from equipment positioning through utilities, controls and power-on readiness.
- Extrusion presses and press-line equipment
- Automated handling and ASRS systems
- Anodising and powder-coating lines
- Electrical, piping and utility connections

Rolling, forming & surface treatment
Rolling and finishing lines depend on accurate equipment geometry across long process runs and connected stages. Mill alignment and dimensional verification supports installation and checking where mills, cooling beds, bending lines or surface-treatment equipment must meet defined tolerances.
- Rod mills and cooling beds
- Mill roll exchange and shutdown maintenance
- Automated bending and forming lines
- Degreasing, pickling and coating equipment

Plant modernisation & expansion
A greenfield build or brownfield revamp rarely stops at one machine. Heavy rigging, structural steel, pipework, electrical systems and commissioning activity often have to progress in sequence across the same site. Multi-discipline plant delivery brings those workstreams together from site preparation through to production readiness.
- Greenfield plant build-out and capacity expansion
- Brownfield revamps and shutdown programmes
- Heavy lifting, steelwork and utility installation
- Commissioning support and production readiness

Programme delivery & site safety
Metals work can place high-temperature areas, heavy lifts, confined access and multiple contractors inside the same shutdown or construction programme. Through shutdown planning and workfront control, lifting sequences, equipment access, work fronts and commissioning milestones are matched to the plant schedule.
High-risk shutdown safety controls covers isolations, hot work, lifting controls, work at height and supervision across concurrent activities.

Beck & Pollitzer Industrial Intelligence™

Need to know more?
Yes. Beck & Pollitzer supports installation and plant modernisation for new and evolving metals-production routes, including electric and submerged arc furnace systems together with the cooling, media, electrical and material-handling infrastructure around them. Our role is to install and integrate the manufacturing systems required by the chosen process technology.
Yes. Beck & Pollitzer can deliver coordinated installation across heavy process equipment, structures, pipework, electrical systems and utilities, with the sequence developed around OEM interfaces, access constraints and the plant start-up plan.
Yes. On one steelworks modernisation programme in Sweden, our team coordinated 16 simultaneous work areas during a fixed shutdown, removing around 700 tonnes of equipment and installing approximately 750 tonnes before commissioning. Our shutdown maintenance and plant support capability can also support planned intervention work around operating assets.
Yes. One major aluminium relocation moved plant and equipment from a 120-acre UK site to India using approximately 420 containers plus 11,000 freight tonnes of breakbulk cargo. Beck & Pollitzer acted as Principal Contractor across dismantling, packing and logistics. See international plant relocation for the wider capability.
Yes. On a UK rod-mill installation, equipment was set to the manufacturer’s required tolerance of ±0.03 mm over a one-metre bedplate using re-established datums, digital theodolites and optical engineering levels.
Yes. Removal methods can be engineered around asset weight, residual heat, service isolation, surrounding structures and available lifting routes. See controlled heavy-equipment removal for the wider dismantling approach.
