Greenfield aluminium plant installation in Kathua, Jammu

Bringing a new aluminium rolling and casting plant online for an Asian aluminium manufacturing specialist.

India

The Challenge

230 workers, 610 days, one accountable team

A greenfield metals plant depends on getting its heaviest, most sensitive equipment right first, since everything downstream relies on it. Beck & Pollitzer supported an Asian aluminium manufacturing specialist with exactly that scale of installation, delivering the full range of industrial installation services needed to bring a new aluminium rolling and casting plant online in Kathua, Jammu.

Over a sustained 610-day programme, a dedicated on-site team of 230 workers plus 25 supervisors and engineers carried out the installation and commissioning of every piece of production machinery on site.

Our Solution

1,400-tonne mill, four casting lines, one commissioning handover

Cold Rolling Mill:
1,400-tonne mill positioned and anchored to OEM specification
Casting lines:
Four combined lines, 1,300-tonne combined capacity
Finishing equipment:
Roll Grinder, Slitter and Cut-to-Length (CTL) lines installed and aligned
Structural & electrical:
110 tonnes of steel cladding, plus main power cabling, trays and panel installation

Mobile cranes of up to 300 tonnes supported the safe placement of the Mill and Caster housings, with piping systems, including hydraulic, lubrication and rolling oil lines, fabricated and leak-tested to specification. Following the mechanical and electrical build-out, Beck & Pollitzer worked directly with OEM teams to complete commissioning and bring the plant to full operational status.

The Outcome

230 workers plus 25 supervisors, 610 days, full handover

With mechanical, electrical, structural and piping scopes delivered as one integrated programme, the plant reached full operational status through joint commissioning with the equipment OEMs.

The result gave the client a fully operational aluminium rolling and casting plant, brought online through a single, accountable delivery team across the full 610-day programme.

Need to know more?

Why were mobile cranes rated up to 300 tonnes needed on this project?
The Cold Rolling Mill and Caster housings were large, sensitive assets requiring precise, controlled placement, so cranes of this capacity supported the lift and positioning work safely.
What role did the equipment OEMs play in commissioning?
Beck & Pollitzer worked directly with OEM teams, including Mino, Bruno Presezzi and Kame Pomini, to complete final testing and power-on protocols, bringing the plant to full operational status.
Why did the steel cladding scope matter for the Cold Rolling Mill area specifically?
The 110 tonnes of steel cladding, platforms and maintenance supports installed around the CRM area protected structural integrity while providing ongoing maintenance access once the plant was operational.
