Overhead installation of a six-section curing oven system

Installing six 30-40 tonne oven sections through overhead access, using a 500-tonne mobile crane.

Czech Republic

The Challenge

Installing 30-40 tonne oven sections where ground-level access wasn’t possible

Installing heavy oven sections onto pre-installed rails inside a production hall required an alternative access route because tight spatial constraints ruled out conventional ground-level positioning. Our team in the Czech Republic worked alongside a European engineering partner to install a six-section curing oven system, with each section weighing between 30 and 40 tonnes.

Our Solution

A 500-tonne mobile crane accessing the site through the building’s roof

With floor space limited, our engineering team developed an overhead installation strategy, using a 500-tonne mobile crane to access the site through the building’s roof. This required structural engineering assessments of both the building and the crane positioning areas, precision planning for accurate placement onto the pre-installed rail system, and close coordination with rigging specialists throughout.

Structural engineering assessments of the building and crane positioning areas
Precision planning to ensure accurate positioning onto the pre-installed rail system
Coordination with rigging specialists throughout the overhead installation
Safety protocol development for the complex overhead lifting operations
Compliance with strict European safety standards throughout

Need to know more?

Why was overhead access needed instead of a conventional ground-level approach?
Tight spatial constraints inside the production hall ruled out conventional ground-level access, which is why the team developed an overhead strategy using a 500-tonne mobile crane through the building’s roof instead.
Why were structural engineering assessments carried out before the crane work began?
Assessing both the existing building structure and the proposed crane positioning areas formed part of the planning for the 500-tonne crane and the overhead lifting operation.
